Bell Canyon Waterfall Fun and More

Bell Canyon is a fabulous place that offers much more than many hikers really know about.  There is the trail to the lower reservoir, which many casual hikers take.  Hiking above the lower reservoir takes people to the lower waterfall. This is a more strenuous hike, with the reward being an amazing waterfall.

Around a mile beyond the lower waterfall are the upper falls, offering a different, but very nice look.

From the lower falls to the upper falls and beyond, the trail gets a lot more challenging and it goes all the way to an upper reservoir.

From the lower falls to the upper falls and beyond, the trail gets a lot more challenging and it goes all the way to an upper reservoir.  The distance from the trailhead to the upper reservoir is around 4 miles and the vertical gain is close to 4,000 feet.  I have hiked the trail to the Bell Canyon upper reservoir twice and it has been very challenging both times.

There are places around the lower falls I explored and below is one of the more fun ones!

However, there are other areas to explore and I found a few last week. I won’t go into a lot of detail regarding where I went, but the photos and videos should be fun to look at!

The main trail up Bell Canyon beyond the lower reservoir follows the creek much of the time.

The trail to the lower reservoir and lower waterfall are well traveled in all seasons and hiking it in the winter is pretty amazing!

Unless there is freshly fallen snow spikes are usually enough.  With enough fresh snow, snowshoes might be a good idea.

Oh by the way, I recently found a fun way to get across the creek leading up to the lower falls in Bell Canyon.  Check it out below!

Another hike I have done in the area was the Bell Canyon Ridgeline. Check out images from that hike below.

This took me up the ridge on the north side of the canyon to a view high above the lower waterfall.  The ridgeline is a steep and challenging hike with absolutely amazing views of Bell Canyon to one side and Little Cottonwood Canyon on the other.

There are several places to start a hike at Bell Canyon and they are all at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon in Sandy, Utah.  There are several parking areas right by the intersection of Wasatch Blvd. and Little Cottonwood Rd.  Click here for a map.
