Lake Mary is a fabulous and popular hiking destination. The trailhead is an easy drive from the Salt Lake City metro area and the hike isn’t very long.

Hiking to Lake Mary starts at Brighton Ski Resort. The trail went under a couple of chairlifts before heading off the ski runs. On this early June day there was still plenty of snow on the ground, but there was plenty of open ground as well. Most of the snow was hard packed, but there were a few places where we post-holed (punched through the surface).

Lake Mary is held back by a dam, but it has awesome mountain peaks behind it. Even in early June the lake still had plenty of ice on it. The sky was clear and blue and the reflection of mountains and sky off the open water combined with ice on the surface made for some great photos!

The hike to Lake Mary was around 1.5 miles and it was all uphill. My hiking partner and I went fairly early so there were few people at the lake when we got to it, but more people showed up pretty quickly.

Lake Mary is the first of several lakes above Brighton. This Old Hiking Dude has been all over this area, skiing and hiking, and will be back here to post more area hikes another day!
