I have hiked to Gloria Falls many times. I’ve done it in the spring when the water has been gushing so hard from melting snow it has sounded like a jet engine. I have hiked Gloria Falls in the winter when it has been almost completely frozen and covered in snow. The trail in the fall is stunning with amazing aspen and maples glowing against the blue sky. My most recent trek to Gloria Falls was a bit different. Spring came early this year and the winter snowfall was at a record low. The waterfall thawed early and the flow wasn’t nearly as strong as I have seen it. However, I hit the trail after an overnight snowfall and it was pristine and quiet. I had it all to myself for almost 2 hours. I have to say it was – well, glorious!
I hit the trail before sunrise and got some nice images and video and will allow them to tell the rest of the story.

Gloria Falls is located in Little Cottonwood Canyon just a few miles below Snowbird and Alta. Other trail from the trailhead include Red Pine Lake, Maybird Lake (Maybird Gulch) and White Pine Lake. I look forward to posting hikes to these in the near future!

Oh by the way, I left an OHD print in the snow along the trail – for Old Hiking Dude!
